A Cultural Group Trip to Zanzibar
What does it mean to experience Zanzibar beyond the beach?
This journey invites you to discover the island through its people, villages, flavours, traditions and ocean landscapes. We travel slowly, with openness and curiosity, creating space for real encounters and meaningful moments with the local community.
During this small-group trip to Zanzibar, we connect with local families, children and community initiatives, take part in creative shared activities, cook with local women, explore traditional villages, sail across turquoise waters and wander through the historic alleys of Stone Town.
This is not just a trip to a beautiful island. It is an invitation to experience Zanzibar from within: its simplicity, generosity, rhythm, colors and human warmth.
What We Will Experience Together
- Community Connection: We dedicate meaningful time to local community encounters, taking part in shared activities with children, families and local hosts.

DAY 1: ATHENS - ZANZIBAR
Flight to Zanzibar via an intermediate stop.
DAY 2: BWEJUU, THE FIRST ENCOUNTER
We arrive in Bwejuu early in the morning. Today is dedicated to slowing down and entering the island’s natural rhythm. We feel the sand beneath our feet, enjoy the endless blue of the Indian Ocean and begin to understand the spirit of “Pole Pole” – slowly, slowly. In the afternoon, we take a relaxed walk through the village and get our first glimpse of local everyday life. Overnight stay.
DAY 3: JOZANI FOREST, THE ROCK AND SUNSET BY THE OCEAN
We begin the day in Jozani Forest, walking among mangroves and tropical plants as we look for the rare Red Colobus monkeys.
We then continue towards Pingwe to see the famous The Rock, the iconic restaurant built on a rock in the sea, before enjoying lunch at a seaside restaurant.
In the afternoon, we set sail on a traditional wooden boat. As the sun colours the sky in gold and orange, we reach a secluded sandbank where music, ocean breeze and barefoot dancing create one of the most unforgettable moments of the trip.
Return to the hotel and overnight stay.
DAY 4: VILLAGE LIFE AND THE TASTE OF CONNECTION
Today we visit the neighbouring villages of Paje and Jambiani, where the land meets the Indian Ocean in a constantly changing landscape.
Paje welcomes us with its lively energy and endless beaches, while Jambiani, one of the island’s oldest fishing villages, reveals a more traditional side of Zanzibar.
We observe local fishermen preparing their wooden ngalawa boats and see how the tide shapes everyday life. Later, we are welcomed into a local home, where we learn how to make chapati, Zanzibar’s traditional bread.
We share a homemade meal with our hosts, surrounded by the aromas of spices and the warmth of genuine hospitality.
Return and overnight stay.
DAY 5: BLUE SAFARI, A DAY IN THE ENDLESS BLUE
Today we enjoy one of Zanzibar’s most beautiful sea experiences: Safari Blue.
We sail from a small harbour in the south towards sandbanks and small islands that appear and disappear with the tide. Along the way, we may see dolphins and we stop for snorkelling among colourful fish and coral reefs.
At lunchtime, we enjoy freshly grilled seafood on the beach, with lobster, fish, calamari, octopus, rice and vegetables.
We relax on the sand, explore the mangroves and return in the afternoon. Overnight stay.
DAY 6: COMMUNITY CONNECTION AND LOCAL ENCOUNTERS
Today is dedicated to meaningful community connection.
We take part in shared activities with children and local hosts, creating simple moments of play, creativity, interaction and joy. These encounters remind us that connection is built through presence, openness, laughter and cooperation.
We are not there simply to visit. We are there to share, listen, be inspired and leave a small part of ourselves in the community, just as it leaves something precious in us.
The afternoon is free for walking around, relaxing and exploring local life. Beach barbecue dinner under the stars. Overnight stay.
DAY 7: VILLAGE LIFE AND WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT
We continue our community experience with more time dedicated to local encounters and shared activities.
In the afternoon, we visit the village women’s cooperative and meet women who support their families and community through cooperation, creativity and traditional knowledge.
Together, we prepare fresh coconut milk in the traditional way, using the mbuzi to grate coconut and extract the rich, aromatic milk used in local cuisine.
We then enjoy a traditional meal together and share moments that go beyond language and words.
Free afternoon and overnight stay.
DAY 8: COMMUNITY ENCOUNTERS AND OCEAN MOMENTS
Today we complete the circle of our community experience and say goodbye to the people who welcomed us.
We take time for final images, shared moments and one last connection with village life. The afternoon is free to explore the local market, walk through the village or simply relax beside the ocean.
In the evening, we gather on the beach for dinner, enjoying a barbecue on the sand and sharing the experiences of the day under the stars.
Overnight stay.
DAY 9: SPICE FARM AND STONE TOWN
Zanzibar was once one of the world’s leading spice producers, known especially for cloves, nutmeg and cinnamon.
Today we visit an organic spice farm, where we touch, smell and taste spices, herbs and tropical fruits used in cooking, cosmetics and traditional remedies.
After lunch with local flavours, we continue to Stone Town. Check-in at our hotel and free afternoon. Overnight stay.
DAY 10: STONE TOWN, THE LABYRINTH OF HISTORY
Stone Town is the soul of Zanzibar: a city made for wandering, observing and awakening the senses.
We walk through its maze-like alleys and admire its unique architecture, shaped by Arab, Persian, Indian and African influences. We photograph carved wooden doors, pass by places of worship and take in the sounds, colours and scents of the city.
At Darajani Market, spices, fruit, vegetables, fish, fabrics and local products create a vivid picture of everyday life. Bargaining is part of the local custom and one of the most authentic ways to experience the market.
Our city tour includes the Old Fort, Forodhani Gardens, House of Wonders, the Slave Market Monument, Freddie Mercury’s House and historic places of prayer.
As the day fades, we watch the lights come on over the harbour and feel Stone Town’s timeless atmosphere by the Indian Ocean.
Overnight stay.
